You are the dream that people dream to be

You know how we keep cursing life in the US saying that it is so mechanical, such a boring routine, so work and career oriented, so $money$ minded? Well, have you ever stopped to think that if that is what you believe, then why did you go through all the trouble to reach here in the first place? And what amount of hardwork and determination it took you to get here?

Desi friends in the US meet up on weekends and talk about how life in India used to be so carefree and fun...how we used to actually have a life outside work and hang out with friends in the evening...eating pani puri or driving around town. And they compare that with life in the US where all you do is get up in the morning, drive to work, come home late evening, eat dinner, watch TV and sleep. No socialization, no hanging out with friends, no eating pani puri on streets, nothing. But just for a second - have you thought from the perspective of the young graduates in India who have big dreams but are limited by their social or financial conditions? I am not saying that India is not a great place to be - especially if all your loved ones are there and that is where you want to be. But have you ever thought that this seemingly "boring and routine" life in the US is exactly what millions of youngsters in India dream to live? They dream for a time when they will have to stop worrying about how to pay the next month's rent or when will they be able to upgrade from an old motorbike or scooter to just a second hand used car...or for that matter when will they be able to gift a set of diamond earrings to their mother. They actually dream for a time when they will be able to come home from work and not have to worry about anything and just watch plain old TV and sleep. There are millions of people in India my friends, who actually dream and pray for the life that you are living. WE my dear friends, the bored Indians feeling stuck in the rut in the US, the generation that is yearning to go back to India for good, are actually the very few lucky ones who are infact living the dream that people in our country dream to be...
